A self build low energy structurally insulated panel design (SIP) designed to take advantage of the levels of the existing site creating a split level house with a large open plan kitchen family living area at first floor.
The Entrance porch gives access to the property from the higher part of the site, with a split level staircase from this allowing access to the first floor living accommodation or ground floor bedroom accommodation.
A further sitting area has been created downstairs giving direct access to the rear garden. The house is clad in a mixture of stone and steel sheeting, with a zinc roof. Solar PV and hot water panels are located on the south facing roof slope, coupled to a highly efficient heating system. This, along with the high levels of thermal insulation, excellent airtightness and a whole house mechanical ventilation system ensures the house is very energy efficient.
The form of the property has been designed to maximise the solar gain and provide efficient natural ventilation during the summer months via high level north facing windows, which also bring high quality natural light into the centre of the plan form.
